Box Break: 2016 Topps Archives Signature Series (Two Box Break)
Although I did not pull anything special from the 2015 Topps Archives Signature Series, I thought I would give it another shot in 2016. From the sell sheets, the 2016 Archives Signature Series holds some solid player autographs. Players such as Cal Ripken Jr., Hank Aaron, Ken Griffey Jr., Mark McGwire, Sandy Koufax, Mike Piazza, and many more highlight the product. Furthermore, in my opinion, even the common autos are notable.
I was able to find boxes/packs at about $45 each, and at the price point I thought it would be fun to open two packs. So, here are the breaks:
2003 Topps Chrome Buyback Auto of John Olerud #380 #ed 1/1
1994 O-Pee-Chee All-Star Redemption Auto of Carlos Baerga #6 #ed 15/33
The first pack was a nice hit with the one of one John Olerud auto, but the Carlos Baerga auto was a dud. Honestly, I like the Baerga card in spirit, meaning I like the selection of the 1994 O-Pee-Chee All-Star Redemption card for a buyback. Also, I don’t mind that the card depicts Carlos Baerga. He was a stud back in the day. What killed the card was that it was of a common player coupled with the card being badly top to bottom OC. All this card does is make me upset and reinforce my thoughts on Topps’s lack of quality control or lack of care. I feel that I deserved better for my $45.
