On my last trip to Target I was scoping out the latest retail products when I saw 2016 Topps MLS blaster boxes. Seeing the new MLS cards spawned fond memories of 2014 Topps Chrome MLS. I loved the 2014 Chrome, and although this wasn’t Chrome, I was interested in purchasing one box. As I started to put the box in my shopping cart, I read that each blaster is guaranteed to have one autographed card, so without thought I grabbed a second. Excited, I quickly finished my business at the store and raced home to open my new acquisitions. Here are the breaks.
Blaster Box One: #149 Chad Marshall Auto #ed 105/350 #144 Darwin Ceren Blue Parallel #ed 79/99 #100 David Villa Short Print Variation Blaster Box Two: #61 Andrea Pirlo Shrot Print Variation #105 Quincy Amarikwa Auto #ed 140/350 #196 San Jose Earthquakes Team Card Red Retail #ed 3/5 My post-break thoughts are not positive, and I am having serious buyer’s remorse. Value wise, I would say that I did ok, but product wise this stuff is trash. The base card designs are weak and the card stock is flimsy. At least one-third of the cards had damaged corners straight out of the pack. Outside of the base cards there are a few insert cards (All-Stars, Presence of the Pitch, and Rooted Rivalries). These cards suck and aren’t worth talking about except to note that they are “half asked” fillers with an even poorer card design than the base. Finally, to top things off, Topps threw sticker autos on these junk cards. I can understand sticker autos if this was an international soccer product |
